Proud to be Catholic

Cardinal_Sen_Patrick_OMalley_OFM_Cap_of_Boston_File_Photo_CNA_CNA_US_Catholic_News_11_7_12I was so proud to read that the Bishop of Boston, Cardinal O’Malley is not going to attend and speak at Boston College’s graduation ceremony out of a special stand for the unborn!!!! I love him. I love that he stands up for us, we Catholics who have no say in the Catholic colleges and Catholic parishes across the country that diminish the rights of the unborn!!!

Cardinal O’Malley is modeling excellent Catholic beliefs!! I’m really very warmed and comforted by his actions and I hope all of you are, too.

Boston College is granting an honorary degree to an Irish politician who is pushing to downgrade the rights of the unborn in Ireland. This seems, coming from a “Catholic” college, to be an abomination against our faith. I feel empowered by Cardinal O’Malley’s refusal to take part in celebrating this person.

Thank you Cardinal O’Malley for standing strong for Catholic beliefs!!! Thank you. You will be hated for this but I LOVE you for this.

  1. As someone who lives in Boston (and has a degree from BC), I am incredibly proud of my Archbishop. He has been one of the strongest pro-life voices in the nation for a very long time, and just recently lead the charge here in MA to defeat a ballot initiative that would have allowed for physician-assisted suicide. I pray that more bishops speak this boldly to Catholic university administrations!

  2. So happy to read this, early on the morning of the 50th anniversary of my First Communion. [12:45 AM EDT] Thanks for the encouraging news, Regina! 🙂

  3. Great post!!!! Good stuff!’ I also attend a Jesuit “Catholic” university and it seems to me BC and Georgetown are more secular than Catholic along with way too many. It used to be Catholic University meant something…today not so much. The college I attend is the same way…it’s very sad.

If its status as a school “in the Jesuit tradition” wasn’t enough to disuade me from recommending BC, this would:

    • thank you Davide! I will check out your link. It is so sad how “Catholic” universities aren’t Catholic anymore. I think there is a list from the Newman Society or something that lists how Catholic Catholic schools really are.

      • Yup I think you’re right…I believe they list the top 20 Catholic schools???? Or something like this…..HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all you moms!!!

  4. Agree. Just now returning from graduation at Benedictine College in Atchison, Ks. Speaker was Paul Ryan with protestors to his fiscal stance yelling down the street. Although he’s not perfect he does promote Catholic values and fiscal and personal responsibility. It was refreshing to go to a ceremony with some spiritual essence.

Talk to me!
