I have adopted this Cardinal and will be praying for him before, during and for 3 days after the conclave.
Godfried Danneels, from Belgium, born 4.6.1933. He’s been a Cardinal since 2.2.1983 and his function is: Archbishop emeritus of Mechelen-Brussels, Belgium
He is one year younger than my Dad and makes the 80 year old cut off for the conclave by just three months. In 2003, Danneels was voted “Most Remarkable Personality” of the year by Flemish television viewers. He speaks Dutch, English, German, French and Italian fluently. May my prayers for this Cardinal be deeply blessed. Adopt a Cardinal yourself at adoptacardinal.org

My Cardinal is Guiseppe Betori from Italy – botn on February 25, 1947. I pray that the Holy Spirit will be with him as he helps to select our new Pope.
So it starts March 9th? I hope it doesn’t take too long! I love you, Mom!

Hi,
Wow! This is could be fun and playfully damnable at the same time. 🙂
As a Italian born and raised until my 14th year, I’m naturally inclined to pick an Italian such as Scola, Betori, or Ravasi.
But not going to do it.
I am going to walk the blank and pick a man outside Europe and who also happens to be “retired”, a senior citizen, but a very young 80 years, and from Nigeria.
I will choose Cardinal Arinze. And only because I know him. Petty cool huh? Well that’s not the only reason…there is a few more.
As a late teen and early 20 something I had been to a couple of his retreats/conferences in North East Ohio and at the “meet and greet” I shook his hand and he shook mine. I remember thinking at that time-‘pretty teeth’. (probably not his own) His grin to me stretches ear to ear. Obviously, pretty teeth is hardly a requirement but couldn’t hurt.
A bit on the more serious side I think we can agree to continue to trust in the Most Holy Trinity and keeping our prayers and sacrifices close to our hearts.
I think as Catholics we pray because that’s what we were born to do. We should trust fully that the Cardinal’s who exercise free will at the Conclave will have their minds and hearts open to the divine illumination of the Holy Spirit. Saying a few prayers and offering up our Mass intentions for the Conclave is a very good thing we could do, no?
As we all wait with nervous anxiety we probably do find these times difficult. Being Catholic the last decade or so has been challenging and we all have heard and witness plenty of hate along the way. My family and my devotion to the Virgin sustains me.
Think all of us should be at peace and joyfully await what is to become.
If we can remember Jesus is in charge and at the wheel us in the backseat will never have to ask “Are we there yet?”
Glory be to Jesus Christ!
Ciao,
Davide
BTW your blog tagline rocks!!! Hilarious!
Next we should do the name game.

What a spectacularly beautiful comment! Thank you, sweet Italian! I didn’t get to pick my Cardinal. I went through the web site and it picked one for me, divinely inspired perfectly for me tho right? Yes, it is challenging being Catholic these days. My response to the challenge is to simply be wholeheartedly authentically as Catholic as I can be. People on all sides seem to respect that. Thanks again for your comment. Cya
